| Surfballroom, Mad Fred and The Maniacs Empire Music EMP CD-102
Mad Fred & The Maniacs are from the Netherlands, actually, the drummer is an ex-member of 'Billy Wiggle and the Wigglers', another well known band for the rockabilly fans. They've been performing since 1997 and have played covers of lots of our rockabilly heroes: Johnny Powers, Sleepy LaBeef, Glenn Glenn, Alvis Wayne, Gene Maltais, Charlie Feathers, Sonny Fisher, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins... But now, things have changed 'cause this time all of the tracks are self penned (in their previous albums, none was). And they, not only perform excellent covers, but can also write pretty good songs themselves, as this latest work will prove. When you listen to these 4-piece combo, you feel kind of like Marty McFly in 'Back to the Future' when he was sent back to 1955. Mad Fred and the Maniacs play such an authentic 50s rockabilly sound, that you'll doubt they have recorded the album early this year. The title is a reference to a venue in Vissingen, Holland. As a matter of fact, they chose that place to celebrate a "Record Release Party" in March 2005. They've released this third album in Empire Music, a new international record label based throughout Europe. Their previous releases have had very favourable reviews in such magazines as 'Now Dig This' and 'Blue Suede News', and I'm quite sure this one won't be any less. So, get ready for an authentic fifties rockabilly session and enjoy! MORE MAD FRED & THE MANIACS CLICK HERE >>> Tracks listing:
