| Rockin' Daddy, Pete Hodgson & The Fireballs Raucous Records, RAUCD136
On the back cover of this album, Chris Cummings wrote: "The next time anyone says there's no rock 'n' roll worth listening to after 1959, play them your favorite track from this album and watch their jaw drop." And Chris is right on the dot! This is an exceptional album indeed. "Rockin' Daddy" is the debut album of the piano pounding rock 'n' roll sensation Pete Hodgson & The Fireballs! Sounding like a Jerry Lee Lewis Sun Session, "Rockin' Daddy" is already being hailed as "The Rock 'n' Roll Album Of The Year". Fans of The Killer will be both astonished and delighted by the piano and vocal styles which combine the sound and style of Jerry Lee with Hodgson's own character. Recorded on vintage equipment, you'd be forgiven for mistaking this album for unissued Sun recordings. Pete Hodgson & The Fireballs had some tracks out on a couple of Vampirella compilations, and in a review I found elsewhere on the net it read: "Yet the best moments come when piano pumpers Pete Hodgson and Pete Nash slap and rake the keyboards unashamedly in the Killer's patented country-boogie style". Seems like everybody agrees that Pete Hodgson is a new star at the horizon to reckon with. You will not find a lesser or poorer song on this album, there's just no stopping Pete's boogie woogie. And although all tracks are cover versions, it really is a must for all rock 'n' roll, rockabilly and boogie woogie fans! Other Pete Hodgson releases:
