Danny Santos and the Savoys, The Fifties Revisited

How do you blend the jumpiní sounds of American roots music with the fire and passion of the Latin culture? The answer is Danny Santos and the Savoys.

Originally a Brazilian immigrant, Santos was born into the wild "Carnival" atmosphere, drenched in the feverish rhythms inherent to the Latin and African cultures of Brazil. Upon moving to the U.S.A. as a child, Danny embraced the raw sounds of primitive American rock ní roll, which connected him in his adult years to his equally passionate American band mates, The Savoys.

Danny Santos and the Savoys are comprised of musicians who are well-versed in the art of bygone music genres, from early rock n' roll to pre-war blues and jazz. Danny Santos and the Savoys bring forth that combination of sound with their roots deep in mid 1950ís rockabilly. With their influences not limited to merely one historical era, Danny Santos and the Savoys have accomplished a distinct sound that reflects a sense of authenticity. Their approach to the music has paired them with acts such as Big Sandy and the Fly-Rite Boys, The Lucky Stars, Cave Catt Sammy, and Cari-Lee and the Saddle-ites.

Danny Santos and The Savoys' debut recording will be released this winter in both 45 RPM and 78 RPM formats. Staying true to their passion for original 1950ís rockabilly, Danny Santos and the Savoys have recorded this disc using vintage instruments and vintage recording equipment. This method of recording reveals Dannyís clean melodic vocals and features the jazz-influenced guitar playing of Steve Merritt. The percussive bass tones by Dickie Hanses and the steady rockiní beats of Rick Quisol on drums have been captured by the vintage recording techniques in a way that the modern digital process could never tame.
